Description:

Semi-rimless construction with tapered lens outlines, the METROPOLE embodies true performance and digital focus. Temples treated with a thermoplastic polymer tip ensure a secure fit and spring hinges finish the seamless temple transition. Elegant attitude. Attache Phenom: Subtle style meets high performance in the Attache collection. The Phenom design features a frame made of lightweight Mg-Al alloy treated to a rich anodized finish. And treat yourself to added comfort with adjustable nose pads and resilient spring hinges -- perfect for people who need to put on and remove their glasses frequently. i-FI lens coatings: i-Fi lens coatings filter and protect. Our proprietary nano-filters help capture all of the good light coming from the computer screen while diffusing the bad reflective light and glare. The outer coating provides a protective layer that shields the lens from scratching, abrasion, and oxidation damage. fRACTYL lens geometry: Computer generated fRACTYL lens geometry mimics nature through advanced science and engineering. Aiding the natural focusing power of the cornea, our lens geometry eases eyestrain caused by near distance computer viewing. fRACTYL lens geometry uses independently curved front and back surfaces to provide unparalleled distortion-free optics. Fused with Gunnar frames, the tightly arced lenses form a personal ocular microclimate that prevents dry eyes. iONik lens tints: iONik lens tints take harsh artificial light and precisely tune it to match the anatomy of the eye. Our custom organic dye compounds condition and shift transmitted light into the preferred color spectrum, increasing visual contrast, detail and resolution. Edges of screen pixilated images read more easily and interfering blue light is reduced -- ultimately your eyes are less fatigued. diAMIX lens material: DiAMIX is the next generation of lens materials for those that demand the highest optical qualities.

2Gunnar EyewearDec 19, 2009
I bought these glasses with the intention to increase tolerance of looking at my lap top's screen and protect my eyes from the constant radiation. I have good eyesight and I do not need perscription glasses. After I wear these glasses for 10 minutes, my eyes begin to show signs of fatigue and I become dizzy. It appears that these glasses have prescription lences. Also the color of the lenses tends to increase the brightness of the computer screen instead of cutting down the intensity of the light. I do not want to damage my eyes thus I stopped wearing them. I feel that I wasted close to $70 for nothing.

3Yeah, butDec 12, 2009
Yeah they are great for computer glasses, but.....

I had these made as prescription reading glasses, which upon reflection was just not worth the hassle or expense, I would strongly recommend against buying these as prescription glasses. You must go through an eyecare professional to get them and that generally increases costs, they will not sell you just a straight reading set with a +1.0, +1.5 diopter and let you provide PD from your eyecare professional. So essentially as a prescription glasses wearer you are required to add another layer of middleman to the cost structure. That is fundamentally my reason to recommend against these as prescription glasses, cost.

The other more substantive issues are those of quality. While these do relieve eye strain and the frames are remarkably well constructed with a stylish look, a couple of "made in china" issues seem to arise.

First:
The lenses are of generally poor workmanship became severely scratched in about one month despite pretty gentle care on my part. Basically they perform no better than off the shelf readers in that department.

Second,
The frames while being sturdy and stylish, have a finish that is starting to come off after about a one month time frame.

These sort of issues generally arise in unsupervised offshore production environments and in this case may indicate that the facility is scrimping on coating material thickness in an effort to cut costs and that is why I say these are "made in china" issues.

My final advice would be that, if you need a good set of computer glasses without a prescriptive lens, then give these a try if you feel the price is right, but beware that they scratch easily and will look beat up in a rather rapid time frame.

4Surprisingly effective, somewhat nerdy, chromatic aberration at edgesNov 26, 2009
These glasses really do help with the pain that I have been suffering by staring at the LCD monitor for 16 hours a day. I deducted one star because these aren't exactly the greatest lenses when you look off-axis. My peripheral vision seen through the glasses suffers considerably due to the aberration. I don't have this problem with Maui Jim sunglasses or Nikon glasses, for instance.

5Stylish and they work really wellJul 25, 2009
I first saw these at a store in Las Vegas (WAY more expensive though, they wanted $150 versus $99 here) I have to say I was a bit of a skeptic....computer glasses....but I decided to give them a try; they REALLY work well. They are comfortable, stylish and again they work.

I had lasik last year and with that near vision suffers a little. At the end of a day after being stuck in my office banging away at this plastic tray of chiclets, my eyes would be trashed. I had to get a stronger pair or reading glasses to read the paper at night.

I noticed a difference the first day and now I swear by these.

4Does relieve eye strainFeb 12, 2009
Been only a month now, but these glasses do relieve the eye strain for me. Only time will tell, but it is encouraging thus far.
