Description:

Start with a high-tensile micro-tubular frame to support the i-AMP optical lens platform. Add internal hinges with non-visible hinge stops and precision injected polymer temples for unparalleled user fit. Finish with a highly wrapped split-lens for the perfect balance of moisture retention and venting. i-FI lens coatings: i-Fi lens coatings filter and protect. Our proprietary nano-filters help capture all of the good light coming from the computer screen while diffusing the bad reflective light and glare. The outer coating provides a protective layer that shields the lens from scratching, abrasion, and oxidation damage. fRACTYL lens geometry: Computer generated fRACTYL lens geometry mimics nature through advanced science and engineering. Aiding the natural focusing power of the cornea, our lens geometry eases eyestrain caused by near distance computer viewing. fRACTYL lens geometry uses independently curved front and back surfaces to provide unparalleled distortion-free optics. Fused with Gunnar frames, the tightly arced lenses form a personal ocular microclimate that prevents dry eyes. iONik lens tints: iONik lens tints take harsh artificial light and precisely tune it to match the anatomy of the eye. Our custom organic dye compounds condition and shift transmitted light into the preferred color spectrum, increasing visual contrast, detail and resolution. Edges of screen pixilated images read more easily and interfering blue light is reduced -- ultimately your eyes are less fatigued. diAMIX lens material: No existing lens material had all the properties we needed. So we gave our lab techs the task of developing the lightest, most optically pure lens material possible. Beating out polycarbonate on the toughness scale and rivaling the undisputed optics of ground glass, diAMIX is the next generation of lens materials for those that demand the highest optical qualities.

2DisappointedJan 13, 2010
I bought these for my son because they appear to have a solid one piece nose cushion instead of the usual dual nose pads. He spends a lot of time on the computer and he thought the nose piece would be much more comfortable than the standard. When I received them they did not resemble the picture. They had the usual two nose pads. Very deceptive advertising. He likes the glasses and thinks they help minimize eye strain but he doesn't like the nose pads.

1Where's the Tylenol?!Dec 04, 2009
I ordered the white colored frames because there was a half-off sale on them at the time. However, I couldn't get past the first day of use. They gave me a bad headache and didn't seem to relax my eyes or keep them from drying out as stated. They were also unattractive and too big for my face. However, I have a smaller-than-average head size for a guy and think these would fit fine for an average sized male head. Returning them was a breeze (through Amazon) and I promptly received a refund.

5Excellent spectacles, Excellent companyNov 14, 2009
First off, for full disclosure, I wear prescription glasses, so I had to get my Gunnars special order from an optician. If you've got good eyesight, be very glad, because the prescription variety cost a whole heck of a lot more. Still, they've been worth every penny.

I am sometimes at a computer for 18 hours a day, which used to lead to squinting and headaches. I have not suffered from a vision-related headache since I started wearing my Gunnars. Besides a noticeable lack of squinting, the frame and lenses are ridiculously light, so the pressure on the bridge of my nose and ears is minimal. The hinges are very well-designed; the springs apply enough pressure to keep the glasses held in place, but not nearly enough pressure to pinch.

The tint of the lenses takes a little bit of getting used to. Colors are much warmer with the Gunnars on, and the world looks almost alarmingly blue when they are taken off, so expect a couple minutes of adjustment time each way.

While they are designed for computer/digital device use, I have found them to be quite effective as night-time driving glasses. If you don't wear prescription glasses, I doubt they will improve your vision at night, but the anti-glare coating on them is far more effective than any other prescription glasses I have used, so they're an improvement for me.

The highlight of my experience with Gunnar has been their customer service. As I mentioned, the prescription variety are quite pricey (I usually get two pairs for the price I paid for one pair of Gunnars). About 2 weeks after I received them, I foolishly sat them on top of a box on my desk. They took a fall, lens-first, onto a rough spot of the desk, and acquired a terribly annoying scratch on one lens in the process. I contacted Gunnar to see if they could offer me any solution besides buying a new lens. They, in turn, contacted the store where I had purchased them and arranged for a one-time courtesy replacement of the lens. There was no warranty against this type of damage, so they were fully within their rights to say, "Sorry, I'm afraid there's nothing we can do." Instead, they responded immediately with better results than I would have ever expected.

Overall, I highly recommend Gunnars, though I would suggest finding them in a brick and mortar shop to try them on, first. The tint might not be your thing (especially if you work in an industry where color accuracy is a priority). If the tint is the only thing that you don't like about them, they have another lens coming out soon that is designed for graphic artists (no colored tint), so you might want to explore those. Their website is easy to navigate, so that's a good starting point.
